In September, the children of Year Four sang at the British Citizenship Ceremony at Gateshead Civic Centre.
Under the careful guidance of our music teacher Ms Thompson, we sang two songs during the official ceremony and watched the new citizens: swear on oath or affirmation, pledge loyalty to the UK and then sign the Gateshead Citizenship register. We then watched the applicants as they were presented with a gift and certificate.
Later on, we were even lucky enough to listen to the Northumbrian pipes being played for us as we ate our refreshments. After that we were introduced to Gateshead’s Mayor, Allison Ilderton-Thompson and her Mace Bearer who posed for a picture with us before answering our questions.
