Year 5 have been studying the book ‘Hidden Figures’ by Margot Lee Shetterly. This book tells the true story of three brilliant African-American women—Katherine Johnson, Dorothy Vaughan, and Mary Jackson—who worked as “human computers” at NASA during the1950s and 60s. It gives a detailed insight into the struggles faced by black women in this period of history.
The children took on the role of Mary Jackson, writing letters in role as her. They worked together to proof-read and edit each other’s work before producing their final pieces.
