From September we have been working closely with other schools, listening to national advice and listening to your experiences of home learning during the first national lockdown. We have come up with a home learning platform and plan that we feel will meet the needs of our community.
Home Learning Guidance for Parents and Carers – Carr Hill Community Primary School
There are still many uncertainties within our everyday life. As a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, we are aware that your child may have to self-isolate while the rest of the class attend school. We are also aware that there may be times where the whole class have to self-isolate for a period of two weeks. If this happens, we have tried to implement a platform and approach to learning that will minimise the disruption to your child’s education. Whilst we know that nothing beats face to face learning in a classroom, we believe that we have developed a system of learning that will allow pupils to progress whilst at home. Remember that we only expect children to complete this work at home if they are well enough to do so (if your child is not well enough to complete the work please contact the school to let us know).
We will provide learning at home when pupils are self-isolating at home:
- if we have closed a class or year group ‘bubble’;
- your child has coronavirus (COVID-19) symptoms and/or a positive test result;
- your household has been contacted as part of Test & Trace;
- any local or national ‘lockdown’.
Nursery and Reception
Children in our Nursery and Reception will be set learning activities by their class teachers via our Sway link. Links to these will be posted on the class home learning page above.
Communication with the class teachers will be though our class email addresses:
Year 1 – 6
Microsoft Office is our chosen digital education platform. Over the coming weeks and months children will become familiar with Microsoft Office as their teacher uses it as a teaching and learning tool in the classroom. Children are aware of Word, PowerPoint, Excel and are becoming aware of the new software we are introducing to them – Teams and Sway. We will use Microsoft Office to ensure:
- set work matches the learning that is happening in class
- pupils completed work can be sent via class emails to class teachers
- pupils work is marked with whole class feedback on completed work
- that we will contact your child to check on their learning regularly
Communication with the class teachers will be though our class email addresses:

If your child is unable to access the internet or access a digital device and they are in Year 3 or above, please get in contact with us as the government have given the school a ‘limited’ number of devices we can allow you to borrow. We will provide all learning on hard paper copies as well.
We have set up class pages above where you will be able to access home learning links should your children have to isolate as a whole class. We know that the support of parents and carers in the promotion of home learning is crucial. If there are any problems or you have any worries, then please get in contact with us.
