During our DT Textiles unit, pupils design and create their own puppets, developing a range of practical sewing and fabric-handling skills. They learn how to generate ideas, create templates, cut and join fabrics, and use simple stitching techniques to assemble their puppets.
Throughout the project, children explore how different materials can be used effectively, adding features and decorations to bring their characters to life.
This unit of work encourages creativity, problem-solving and perseverance, while helping pupils understand the design process from initial idea through to evaluation of their finished product.
Our first step was to do our own research into how puppets work and we used this research to help us think about how we would make our own puppets.

After practising our sewing technique and designing our animal puppets we set to work.

Here are our finished puppets! Can you guess which animals we have created?
