As part of our Year 1 sensory circuits, our children have been taking part in peer massage as a calming and regulating activity.
Using simple, child-friendly massage routines with clear consent and guidance, pupils help one another to feel relaxed, focused and ready to learn. Peer massage can support emotional wellbeing by reducing feelings of stress and anxiety, while also helping children develop positive relationships, empathy and respect for personal boundaries. Regular participation encourages self-regulation, improves concentration and creates a calm, nurturing classroom environment where children feel safe, settled and connected to their peers.
This week we have been focusing on hand massages and we have enjoyed giving and receiving relaxing hand massages from our partners.
