In September each year we can welcome up to 45 children into our Reception classes. 45 is our published admission number (PAN). These children are organised into 2 classes of approximately 22/23 children. Each class will have a qualified teacher and other adults to care and help the pupils thrive.
Gateshead Council makes decisions for admissions to Carr Hill Community Primary School for pupils entering Reception to Year 6, in-line with all local community primary schools. Parents and carers who want their child to join Carr Hill should contact Gateshead Council to find out about admission arrangements and waiting lists.
We admit 45 children into each age group in Reception and Years 1 – 6 organised into a number of classes based on needs of pupils. In Key Stage 1 we have up to 30 pupils in each class. In Year 3 – 6 we have slightly larger classes.
Some children join Carr Hill from other local schools, schools elsewhere in the UK or from overseas during the school year. These are known as ‘In Year’ admissions. Further information can be found below.
Nursery Admissions
Parents can complete an application form for admission to nursery at any time.
Please contact the school at [email protected] to request an application form or you can download one below.
Places for September admissions are allocated during the summer term and parents will be notified by letter about the availability or otherwise of a place for their child. A home visit is carried out by the Early Years Foundation Stage team prior to children starting in nursery.
Entry for Nursery children is on a staggered basis, to give the children the best opportunity to settle in.
Pupils are admitted to our Nursery in accordance with our Admissions Policy below:
Reception Class Admissions
Children are admitted to mainstream school (i.e. the Reception Class) once a year in the Autumn Term before their 5th birthday. Parent/Carers will receive a letter from Gateshead Council a year before the child is due to start. This letter gives all the relevant information for applying for the child’s school place and how to apply online. Further information about the primary school admission process, online form, and admissions policy and relevant timescales can be found at www.gateshead.gov.uk/schooladmissions.
Once places have been allocated by Gateshead Council, and parent/carers have accepted the place, we will write to you to invite you and your child to a Welcome Meeting at the end of the summer term before their admission, when your child will be able to spend half a day with their teacher.
Our school’s planned admission number, for each year group from Reception to Year 6, is 45 pupils.
We are happy to answer any questions you may have about our school and we are happy to arrange tours of the school. Please contact the school for more information.
