Year 5 have been studying the work of a famous artist, Joseph Mallord William Turner. He was one of the greatest landscape painters of the Romantic period in Britain, known for his unique exploration of the concepts of natural scenery, and his ground-breaking studies of light, colour, and landscape painting. In Computing, Year 5 have been learning how messages are sent in packages. Their job was to send and receive packages, then put them all back together so that the messages were complete.
A group of our Key Stage 2 children participated in the Sportshall Athletics Qualifier, organised by our Gateshead School Sports Partnership last week. They worked brilliantly as a team, showed immense resilience and were so supportive of each other. The focus for this event was determination, which our children showed throughout the events.
In their Mastering Number sessions, the children in Year 5 have been looking at the relationships between multiplication and division.
In History this half term, the children in Year 5 have been studying the Victorian era. They participated in an investigative lesson, where they were able to handle real Victorian artefacts. In their basic skills lessons, the Year 5 children have been practicing how to find technical language efficiently in dictionaries. They do this as part of their weekly word work in whole class reading.
As part of their PSHE this half term, Year 5 have been discussing emotions. Last week, we focused on times when the children have felt shy or nervous. They went on to create their own masks to wear to enable them to feel confident.
In DT, our Year 5 children were investigating structures! Their group challenge was to build the tallest free standing structure using only card, sellotape and scissors.
A huge well done to Ella who won the Primary Young Sports Achiever award tonight at the Gateshead School Sports Partnership awards ceremony for her contribution to sport. Well done Ella. We are all so proud of you!
