Our school council is a group of pupils elected by their friends and peers to represent their classmates and help make decisions about school life. It gives children a voice and promotes teamwork and responsibility.
Keep an eye on this page for regular updates about what our school council has been up to!
- REDUCE,RECYCLE, REUSE!
Our School Council has decided to help make our school more sustainable. One of their ideas is to improve the ways we recycle in school. We already collect waste paper in separate recycling bins, but they believe there is more we can do!
The School Council has noticed a missed opportunity for recycling during lunchtimes. They observed that many plastic bottles are being placed in the general waste bins instead of being recycled.
To address this, they have created a plan to place recycling bins in the dining hall. This will allow children who bring packed lunches to dispose of their empty plastic bottles correctly so they can be recycled.
The School Council has also designed and created posters and will introduce this new project during Golden Book Assembly. This will help everyone in the school understand how they can contribute to improving our recycling efforts.
Here are some of their amazing posters.

- Our Reading Shed
The school council have helped to organise our new outdoor reading shed. They listened carefully to what the children had asked for in order to improve their outdoor area.
The school council really want to help develop children’s love for reading and by installing a reading shed they hope to encourage children to read for pleasure during their outdoor breaks.
Their campaign to collected pre-loved books has been a great success with lots of families and staff donating books. These books have been added to our reading shed for others to enjoy.
The reading shed is open during break times and lunchtimes and children are welcome to take any books they are enjoying home.

Staff Wellbeing Gifts
Our School councillors decided that they wanted to show the wonderful staff who look after them in school so well how much they are appreciated.
Every Friday the school council chooses two members of staff who deserve a little treat to brighten up their day. They deliver the thank you parcels with a hand written personalised note to let staff know how loved and appreciated they are.

Key Stage Two Playground Equipment
We have used a grant that we have secured from ‘Groundworks’ to help improve our outdoor area within school. The School Council asked their classmates for their input on what they would like to see in our outdoor area. They decided that some seating options in our bottom yard would be really useful for table top activities and packed lunches.
They also decided that a reading shed would be a great idea to allow children to have access to books they can take home and share with their grown ups.

Our Book Appeal
We have put out an appeal for donations of good quality books so that we can stock our outdoor reading shed. We spoke to the whole school during a Golden Book assembly and asked children if they could donate any books they have finished with or no longer read.
We made posters to advertise our appeal and displayed them around school. We have had a great response so far and will keep you posted with our progress!
