To enhance our understanding and learning around habitats, food chains and our local area, our Year 3 children visited Washington Wetlands. What a day! It was a day filled with curiously wondering about animals from far and wide. Who knew we had otters living so close? As well as seeing Washington Wetland’s Asian short clawed otters feeding, some of Mr McGill’s Year 3s actually spotted some European otters in the River Wear. It was also a day of wandering around the meandering paths and muddy walkways, as well as through an array of bird enclosures. We got up close – and we mean close – to birds such as Eurasian cranes, black swans, Icelandic ducks and Indian runner birds. Wow!
In addition to all the animal spotting, we did a pond dipping session, finding all sorts of curious and creepy creatures. As well as this, we also did a bug hunt in the woodlands and found creatures with no legs as well as some with hundreds of legs!
Overall, it was a superb day out and all children agreed they would all visit again. The playscape park on the way out definitely added to the smiles and excitment!
